Why Did I Create Metromom.com?
My name is Kim DeYoung and I’m the founder of Metromom.com. Let me tell you how this all started. A while back, I was heading to Tucson for what turned out to be a life-changing coaching intensive.
On the flight, I wrote in my journal that:
Adrenaline poured through me as I wrote this—an inner knowing that I was on the right track. The big question looming in my head was... “how would I do this?”
Fortunately I was about to spend three days with three unique and highly-gifted women in a collaborative coaching circle where they fully joined forces and brainstormed with me to get to the essence of what I love to do, what I'm really good at and what can benefit others the most.
What came from this trip was the birth of Metromom.com.
Why did I know that Metromoms would jump at a chance to be a part of this? Read on to learn of my discovery.
As a self-motivated woman and mother looking to accomplish many things in my life with maximum energy and minimum stress, I am the original Metromom. After a great corporate career in the fashion industry, working with companies like The Gap, Banana Republic, J. Crew and DKNY, I took the entrepreneurial leap 11 years ago and have never looked back.
Initially, I designed and produced Metromom Maternity—a line of "must-have" pieces for the urban woman—that exploded through a direct sales program I developed. Then I evolved into a business coach and a direct sales marketing executive with Melaleuca - The Wellness Company.
The missing link is a venue for women – specifically Metromoms in home-based businesses—to learn from one another, connect and gather together in a completely supportive environment.
I wholeheartedly believe there’s plenty of room for every woman to shine in all that she does, and this quality of abundance is a very important ingredient of The Metromom Community.
How I Discovered the Value of “Business Supporters”
When I began my direct sales business, one woman at the top of my list to approach was a quintessential Metromom, a mom who was dynamic, driven, engaging, interesting and fun. During our first conversation her words were something like “Kim, I’d never do one of those things.” (I’m sure you’ve heard that before, right?)
Well, fast forward a few months, the phone rang, and she was sheepishly sharing that she was now doing “one of those things” – BUT a different thing than my thing.
Naturally, frustration, sadness and disappointment were amongst my initial emotions. However, and this is a key point, within a short time I quickly realized the value of our relationship... not one of business partners (per se) but of business supporters. With a similar drive, ambition, and resourcefulness, we “get” AND advise each other in a very special way.
Now, years later, many of my most-treasured relationships are with women and moms in other home-based businesses. I want every Metromom to find smart, savvy, successful business supporters, which is why I’m inviting you to join me.
