What Are the Benefits of Repurposing Your Content as a Creative Entrepreneur?

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

As creative entrepreneurs, we want to make our wisdom available to as many people as possible. A great way of do this is to take valuable material we have already created and, through repurposing, present it in different formats. We can be of greater service to others as well as making our own lives easier when we do this.

How can creative entrepreneurs and others benefit from repurposing?

Repurposing saves you time and energy because you don’t have to start from scratch. Instead of procrastinating, you’ll start realizing how much you have to offer, maybe things that you previously took for granted. Here’s an important mindset reminder for creative entrepreneurs – what you know has value.

Another benefit of repurposing is it gives your audience the ability to digest your message on their own terms, not just yours. People take in information in different ways. Some people love to read. Some people prefer to listen. They may be both types at different times. At different times, I’ll grab transcripts or have my CDs in my car. Sometimes I have my iPod and need my MP3 format. Sometimes I enjoy watching something. It really depends on the situation.

If you’re not putting your message out there more in multiple ways, formats and streams you’re not allowing yourself to help as many people as possible. Creative entrepreneurs want to be able to touch people in different ways and give them a sense of who you are. That’s the beauty of what you bring to your business when you embrace the repurposing concept.

So creative entrepreneurs won’t focus on what you DON’T have, but will focus on what you DO have. You might find that you can be repurposing something of real value and touch the lives of many more people. You can also really maximize your limited time and energy and yes, get a lot more done!

What example of repurposing content has worked for you?

Sometimes You’ve Just Got to Take a Pass

Thursday, November 5th, 2009

I’m a big believer in teaching my kids to take responsibility for their belongings and their actions. But I also know the importance of being able to bend the rules.

Beck 10 My 10 year-old son Beck plays the trumpet and a month ago while we were waiting for the bus he realized he’d forgotten it and he asked me to drop it off at school later on. I said no. He looked at me disbelievingly. I said it wouldn’t serve him in the long run if I bailed him out each time. With slumped shoulders and a sad face, he got on the bus. My heart broke but I trusted I was doing the right thing.

Hours later when I met him at the bus (and he’d forgotten the morning) I asked him if he understood why I didn’t bring his trumpet. “You want to me to be responsible,” he said. I clarified that if I’d dropped it off he might not be incentivized to remember the next time.

Fast forward to last week. I’d just returned from a business trip, had jet lag and was definitely not back in my mommy groove. Our morning was rushed, and I had to drive my kids to the bus stop. Just as the bus was arriving, Beck looked at me and said, “oh no, I forgot my backpack.” I told him to stay in the car,  ushered my other two onto the bus. and made a u-turn to head home to retrieve his pack.

When he jumped back in the car with his backpack in hand he asked me why I’d done that, why I hadn’t made him go to school without it.

My heart opened wide and I said “because I know you are responsible. Today was a nutty morning, for which I want to take responsibility, and I want to give you a pass. We all make mistakes and I want you to know it’s okay.” He smiled ear to ear with his delicious dimples that always warm my heart. When I dropped him off at school, he bounced out of the car all light and airy.

Driving home I reflected on the importance of my giving him a pass, and the message I gave him that I do  believe in him and it’s okay not to be perfect. I then thought about that same message for myself.

I need to give myself a pass sometimes. I’m a far cry from the perfect mom. I do my best to connect meaningfully with my kids and instill the values I believe in but sometimes we eat crappy food, stay up too late and forget our backpacks, and it’s okay. We need permission to give ourselves a pass.

Ready to Transform Your Money Relationship?

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

mirror I have shared that money is a highly charged subject for me. I believe the money we have, or don’t have, is a reflection of how much we’re serving others, and how we’re feeling about ourselves. It’s a mirror for all that’s going on in our lives.

My friend Helen Kim, the Money Relationship Mentor has been helping people make up years of not only lost income and savings but as importantly, misplaced energy and time given over to anxiety and worry about money by successfully helping people gain clarity around their money relationship and make the money they want, from the inside out.

For the first time, Helen is going to teach her process that has helped people create a prosperous and integrated money relationship (one of the longest and oldest relationships you will ever have in your lifetime).  Believing that we all hold our own answers, she has a way of helping you get clarity about WHY you do what you do with your money, what you WANT to do with your money, and how you will MAKE a lot more money (thanks to this process).

Check out her class called  "Fire Up Your Finances! Transform Your Money Relationship from the Inside Out".

Helen will share some very helpful information about…

1) 3 Simple Tools you can use immediately to get clarity around your money relationship and begin creating more money from an integrated, thoughtful place.

2) The most prevalent ways people avoid earning and living up to their full potential, why they do this and how to get out of such patterns that don’t serve your best interests.

3) The emotional triggers that YOU use to make money decisions and choices

4)  How to make sure your needs and wants are getting met

5) How you can implement simple, low maintenance money management techniques (really!)

6) The most critical shifts you must make to sustain your financial growth and wealth (Without taking these steps most people slide back into their old, habitual patterns with money).

Women In Business – Recognize Your Value: The Key to being Prosperous [Metromom Podcast]

Monday, October 26th, 2009

What you do (and who you are) has huge value. To truly be prosperous in business and life, you must wholeheartedly believe this. Often, however, I see women in business, myself included, underestimating their value. From a financial perspective, if you’re not appreciating the value of your products and services, you’re certainly not being paid what you’re worth. I want to share some suggestions how to get clarity about your true value so you can really maximize your potential.

Who Are You Not to Shine?

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

This week I took a huge leap by launching a brand-new program called The Get it Done Challenge and in so doing so conquered some pretty big personal baggage.

First, I put myself out there in front of very public large audience, which I’ve often avoided. Second, in the past I would have let myself believe that a program of this caliber is something “other people” do but certainly not me. Now, I say “WHY NOT ME?”

When I find myself going through my own internal junk, and having conversations with the protective voices in my head, I refer back to my favorite poem by Marianne Williamson called Our Deepest Fear. The specific passage that hits me every time is “Your playing small does not serve the world.”

As women, for all our crazy reasons we don’t get out there as we should, we don’t share our brilliance as we are meant to, we don’t get paid what we’re worth and we don’t make the difference to those we know we can.

So much of what will support us to get done what we want to get done is a healthy mindset, a belief in ourselves and a trust in what we’re doing and how we’re being while we’re doing it.

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.  It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves…who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, handsome, talented and fabulous?  Actually, who are you not to be?

For me and many of the women I know it’s rarely just making money that drives us. It’s about doing what you’re meant to do and serving who you’re meant to serve. The key to remember is that:

Your playing small does not serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking
so that other people won’t feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine, as children do.

We were born to make manifest the glory of God within us.
It is not just in some; it is in everyone.

And, as we let our own light shine, we consciously give
other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our fear,
our presence automatically liberates others.

I’d love to hear what inspires you to take action! Is there a quote or some advice that you look to when you know it’s time to move forward? Please share!

Women In Business – How to Improve Your Relationship with Money [Metromom Podcast]

Monday, October 12th, 2009

As a woman in business for yourself, who you are – including your relationship with money – translates into your business. A few months ago I interviewed my good friend and mastermind buddy, Linda Hunt, for a training call for my members on The Language of Money – Understanding Your Language Around Money So You Can Change Your Relationship With It. I want to share just a few highlights from that call on how to improve your relationship with money.

How Does She Do It? Free Tele-Series Exposes the Comparison Trap. #How09

Friday, October 9th, 2009

I am honored to be participating in Gina Bell’s How Does She Do It? Tele-Series happening October 16th and 17th.

This thought-provoking interview series exposes the comparison trap as it relates to “success” stereotypes and draws attention to how our knee-jerk reaction to compare ourselves to others or to “model success” the wrong way sabotages authenticity and confidence.

The series also reveals the top five challenges that women in business online commonly face and directs the how does she do it question to these relevant topics with the intention of protecting your authenticity.

“How Does She Do It?” is a common question we wonder when success appears so effortless for others and we’re not getting the results we want. But, it’s when we look externally for validation and confirmation that our ideas have value that self-doubt can be triggered and we fall into the trap.

So, are you ready to join us in drawing a line in the sand?

Are you ready to break free from the cookie-cutter/copycat approach to modeling success so you can create success your way, authentically and with confidence?

I’m proud to be one of 16 successful women (such as Carla Young, Mary Pat Kavanaugh, Laura West, Shannon Cherry and Marie Forleo, to name a few) who are speaking up to reveal our own experiences with comparison. Our goal is to provide valuable insight, share lessons learned and inspire you to take YOUR next steps all from a caring and supportive approach that protects your authenticity.

The tele-series starts October 16th at 10 AM EST and you can listen to the interviews FREE when you register at http://bit.ly/1wpo0R.
