And the Winner is…

I fell asleep last night, caught up in lots of emotion,  while reading over 70 responses to the Get it Done Challenge contest. At 2 AM, I bounced out of bed to complete my reading and digest the stories of  a diverse group of entrepreneurs.

I am completely in awe of those that submitted entries. These women (and two men) are involved in the gamut of businesses – from  photography to home staging to direct sales to elder care to copywriting to virtual assistance to designing products to biofeedback to handwriting expert to speech pathology to professional organizer to corporate etiquette to travel agent (and there are more.)

What’s incredible is that with this vast list of businesses the similarities in what keeps them all from getting things done is pretty universal. They are overwhelmed by the vastness of their ideas and don’t know HOW to do them. Technology feels illusive to many. They struggle with issues of perfection, worrying that if they can’t do it perfectly they won’t do it at all.   Many have fears of what will others think, fears of failing and also fears of succeeding. Many shared a pervasive frustration and sadness with a lack of a support network and resources.

They all know inherently that getting the things done that matter to them, whether that’s launching a website, starting a coaching program or membership site or speaking more publicly, will make a huge difference in their self-esteem, their bank account and their relationships.

After much deliberation, I chose two winners (instead of the one I had planned) because it felt right and also because I get to make (and break) the rules for my business. Don Osborne of Profit Puzzle has been working at his business for 24 years and is ready to take it to the next digital phase and reward his wife of 40 years for her patience. Kate Lewis, has a corporate etiquette business with a passion for empowering college-students to embark on any situation by knowing how to present themselves correctly and politely.

I trust that those who did not “win” the contest have won just for the sheer fact that they shared their story, and their desire to make a change in a public way. As a special gift to all that participated they are invited to a bonus call I’ll be hosting next week with Debbye Cannon, an organizing expert, called Get It Done by Getting Organized. Debbye will share her must-have tips for organizing all the paper clutter, computer clutter and contact clutter in your home office that is often the bottleneck that keeps us from moving forward and getting it done.
